Pensacola
Pensacola is the most populated city on the Florida side of the Alabama-Florida border with a population of 53,248, according to the 2006 U.S. Census Bureau. The city is also the westernmost municipality in Florida's Panhandle region. Escambia and Pensacola Bays lie to the east and south of the city. Some of Pensacola's largest suburbs include Pensacola Beach, Warrington, Gulf Breeze and Milton. Pensacola is also within 20 minutes of several recreation areas, including Gulf Islands National Seashore and Santa Rosa Island; both recreation areas are on the Gulf of Mexico.
Dothan
The largest city in Alabama on the Alabama-Florida border is Dothan, located near the southeastern corner of the state. The 2009 U.S. Census says Dothan's population is 67,560. The city's downtown area is approximately 15 minutes from the Alabama-Florida border. Dothan's southernmost suburbs – the nearest to Florida – include Madrid, Slocomb, Cottonwood and Hodgesville. Dothan is also within 20 minutes west of the Alabama-Georgia border. The city features the Dothan Regional Airport and Fort Rucker, a U.S. Army base less than a half-hour from Dothan.
Florala
Florala, Alabama, is on the Alabama-Florida border in Covington County and has a population of over 1,900 residents. The name of this city is a combination of the words “Florida” and “Alabama.” The history of this city dates back to the end of the American Civil War when the area had a thriving timber industry. Florala is also home to Lake Jackson, a 500-acre body of water that straddles the Alabama-Florida state line. Lake Jackson has a 40-acre waterfront park – Florala State Park – on the state line; the park has a campground and picnic area.

Flomaton, Alabama, and Century, Florida, are across the Alabama-Florida border from each other. Both cities share the same county name, Escambia. The 2000 U.S. Census reported Flomaton at over 1,500 residents, while Century had approximately 1,700 natives. Century and Flomaton are within 10 minutes of the Escambia River, a 258-mile river that flows from Union Springs, Alabama, to the Gulf of Mexico; the Escambia is called the Conecuh River until it reaches the Flomaton-Century area.

Atmore
Located in southern Alabama, Atmore is on the Alabama-Florida state line in Escambia County. The 2000 U.S. Census had Atmore with a population of 7,676 residents. The Poarch Band of Creek Indians reservation neighbors Atmore and is home to the Wind Creek Casino and Hotel. Atmore is within 10 minutes of Interstate 65. The city hosts the annual Mayfest event at Tom Byrne Park, which is a five-minute drive from Alabama-Florida border; this event has live music and arts & crafts booths.
